Counselor in Residence Program
University Counseling Center聽(UCC), the聽聽(DPS), and the聽 have collaborated to develop the Counselor in Residence (CIR) Program. The program is designed to provide in-person mental health support during evenings and weekends when UCC is closed. The CIRs are trained and supervised by UCC licensed staff and have these main purposes:
- Support for After-Hours Mental Health Emergencies: CIRs are available overnight and on weekends during the academic year. During their shifts they will accompany Public Safety Officers on any mental health-related calls that DPS receives. They may also provide onsite support to Residential Life and UCC on-call providers. To reach a CIR, please call DPS (585-275-3333) or UCC (585-275-3113).
- Residential Life programs: The CIRs are available to provide mental health promotion programming to residence halls and consultations to Residential Life staff as requested.
- Drop-In Hours Fall 2026: The CIRs hold late evening office hours in a Residence Hall office – Hoeing 146B on weeknights. Students can drop by for help connecting with resources, learning how to help a friend, or for just for supportive conversations. Please note that the CIRs do not provide therapy.
