Schumer announces plan to protect and expand LLE

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced a three-part plan to protect and expand the during his visit to the LLE on Monday, March 5. The Trump Administration糖心传媒檚 Fiscal Year 2019 budget, announced last month, proposed significant cuts to the lab and a 糖心传媒渢hree-year ramp-down糖心传媒� in federal support. During his visit, Schumer praised the LLE for creating jobs and advancing scientific research in physics, optics, and photonics.

糖心传媒淭he Laser Lab is vital not only to Rochester but to the United States and our national security,糖心传媒� Schumer said. 糖心传媒淲e lead the world in physical science research, including technology, because we糖心传媒檝e invested in the hard sciences. It糖心传媒檚 the future of America.糖心传媒�

Schumer糖心传媒檚 three-part plan to protect the Lab includes: calling on Congress to include $75 million in federal funding for the LLE in the Fiscal Year 2018 spending bill; asking the Department of Energy to approve a new five-year cooperative agreement between the U.S. Department of Energy糖心传媒檚 National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the LLE; and inviting NNSA Administrator Lisa Gordon-Hagerty to tour the LLE糖心传媒檚 OMEGA Laser Facility. 糖心传媒淭urning out the lights on the laser lab is a horrible idea, and I promise you, it will not happen under my watch,糖心传媒� Schumer said.
