If you are NOT on an F-1 visa, you will need to complete the J-1 work authorization form on UR Compass.<\/p>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThis letter is only for students who have obtained an on campus job through the Student Employment Office. For student employees who are working through an assistantship or stipend, the student must reach out to the ISO team via email (iso@rochester.edu) to request a DSO letter for their ITIN application, as they are likely not social security eligible through a stipend.\r\n\r\nAs per Social Security Administration requirements, the Employment Verification Letter must include the following:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Department Letterhead<\/strong>: The form must be printed on the employing department\u2019s letterhead to ensure validity.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Wet ink Signature from the Hiring Department<\/strong>: the SSA will not accept scanned copies or digital signatures.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Full Name of Student<\/strong>: the students full name as written on their passport should be written at the prompted location. If the student uses an \u201cAmerican\u201d name, please do not write this on the form.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Student\u2019s UR ID number<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>All Prompted Lines in Section One Completed<\/strong>: Please ensure all information is completed, such as nature of job, start date, and hours worked are filled in accurately.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nThis letter can either be dropped off to ISO\u2019s front desk, or it can be sent via intercampus mail to ISO by the hiring department. Your employer can use a letter from the Social Security Administration stating that you applied for your SSN, along with your immigration documents, as proof of your authorization to work in the United States. Employers can find more information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/employer\/hiring.htm\">Social Security government website<\/a>\r\n\r\nIf you have on-campus employment, the University of Rochester can pay you without having your SSN. While the application is pending, you can receive payments for up to two months. After this time, you will need to report your SSN.
