But there is an exception called Automatic Revalidation for <a href=\"\/iso\/new-students\/student-visa-categories\/\">nonimmigrant F and J visa holders<\/a>\u00a0who meet certain requirements, including, but not limited to the following:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Nonimmigrants who departed the United States for brief travel to Canada, Mexico, or an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/sevis\/travel#which-islands-are-defined-as-adjacent-islands--2\">adjacent island<\/a> for 30 days or less.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Nonimmigrants with a valid (unexpired) admission stamp or paper Form I-94 (arrival\/departure record) endorsed by US Department of Homeland Security.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nMany circumstances can void an F or J nonimmigrant's eligibility to use Automatic Revalidation, including applying for a new F or J visa while you are abroad. For the most current information on Automatic Revalidations, <a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/us-visas\/visa-information-resources\/visa-expiration-date\/auto-revalidate.html\">visit the\u00a0U.S. Department of State website<\/a>.\r\n\r\nYou can also reference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/sevis\/travel\">Custom and Border Protection (CBP's) website<\/a> for more travel info and FAQs for nonimmigrant students.\r\n<h2>Plan ahead<\/h2>\r\nIf your nonimmigrant F and J visa is expired, but you want to come back to the US after short travel using Automatic Revalidation, you need to do the following:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Before you leave the US, <strong>make sure you have the necessary visas<\/strong> for all the countries you plan to visit.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Keep a copy of your I-94 card with you<\/strong>. If you have an electronic I-94 record, print out a copy of it and bring it with you. When you return to the US, use the same Form I-94.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Bring your immigration documents with you<\/strong>.
